Allowed Items Policy
This policy explains what may and may not be listed on Forage. Sellers remain responsible for complying with New Zealand law.
Generally allowed
- Homegrown fruit, vegetables, herbs, seedlings, and garden produce.
- Baked goods, preserves, pantry goods, and made-to-order meals where the seller complies with food safety requirements.
- Community garden listings and produce swaps.
- Non-alcoholic drinks and lawful food-related local offerings.
Restricted or higher-risk categories
- Meat, seafood, dairy, eggs, or other higher-risk food categories should only be listed where the seller fully meets the legal requirements for preparing and selling them.
- Sellers must clearly disclose allergens, ingredients, and handling information where relevant.
- Where any listing requires registration, verification, or special compliance steps, the seller must complete those requirements before listing.
Not allowed
- Alcohol, tobacco, vaping products, illegal drugs, or drug paraphernalia.
- Unsafe, spoiled, contaminated, recalled, tampered with, or expired food.
- Medicines, regulated therapeutic products, or listings making unlawful health claims.
- Wildlife, protected plants, invasive species, stolen goods, counterfeit goods, weapons, fireworks, or hazardous chemicals.
Seller checklist
- Make sure the item is lawful to sell or share in New Zealand.
- Describe it accurately, including allergens, ingredients, and condition.
- Store and transport it safely.
- Do not list anything you cannot legally or safely provide.
